It provides an overview of the event planning sequence, including the setting of objectives, budgeting, organising and marketing the event. The stage 2 module focuses on providing students with information on the placement year, and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary for applying for placement and graduate positions. The module also includes a number of workshops and events designed to develop students' skills and knowledge, with the purpose of filling gaps in their CV's and enhancing their employability.

This module develops students' level of English in order to operate effectively in an academic context at stage two. It develops communicative competence at a basic level, enabling students to establish and maintain adequate social relations with speakers of a foreign language, negotiate everyday needs in a foreign country, and communicate using spoken and simple written language in a limited social or work setting.

It develops communicative competence at an intermediate level, improving students' ability to establish social and working relations with speakers of the language, to understand key aspects of the target culture, and to handle useful routine writing and reading tasks. To examine the importance of festivals and event tourism in relation to a tourist destination's policy and planning strategies. This will determine the value of events to the tourism industry. The module will also examine the evolution of event tourism, and discuss the authenticity dilemma of event tourism with particular reference to festivals and festival tourism.

The placement year consists of an extended period of professional work experience in a relevant business organisation. It extends the student's commercial awareness and knowledge of the business environment, provides an opportunity for personal development, and equips them with the experience and skills necessary to gain suitable employment on graduation.

This module will equip you with a sound understanding of the principles and practice of economic, environmental and political crisis and disaster management in the hospitality, events and tourism industries. The student integrates subject specific knowledge and skills to develop a specialist area of knowledge in depth and - with supervision from a subject specialist - conducts their own research investigation and reports their findings.

This module develops learner knowledge on current global issues, concepts, and trends. The aim is to help learners appreciate the complexities of future scenario planning and how to best apply the findings to the events industry through reflection and application to different scenarios. The stage 3 module focuses on providing students with information on graduate options, including further study and graduate management schemes, and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary for articulating and recording achievement and applying for graduate positions.


This module is designed to help students to further develop and refine their ability to use English appropriately and effectively in professional and academic contexts at Year 3. They will do this by reviewing their language development by identifying an area of weakness and adopting appropriate strategies to make progress in that area; engaging in a small research project which they will present to the class; writing an essay and practising relevant professional and academic English skills in small class groups. This course requires consistent, steady work throughout the semester.

Through an intensive field trip activity, it enables students to further explore and reflect upon leadership theory and concepts in practice. This module is designed to develop the creative and communication skills required by event managers. It covers three related themes: innovation, persuasion, and creating an event business. This module focuses on exploring and understanding a range of theoretical approaches to developing strategies for businesses in the tourism, hospitality and events THE sectors and applying these principles to a live consultancy project.

The learner is provided with the opportunity to gain experience of working with a business in THE industries on a consultancy basis, either in a research or strategic development setting. Learners will engage with a client business to mutually identify a suitable project and develop findings and guidelines to inform a new strategic direction.
