There are very intimate scenes which I did skip in parts which I feel are not vital to the novel and made me feel uncomfortable. However, for a 'short story', there was a lot of depth and detail added to it. I am often put off by short stories as I think that they are not detailed enough for me to become connected to them but with this I found the opposite.
The characters are likable and you can really understand their motives throughout the plot. The background provided for them was just enough to encourage empathy but not too much to overpower the story. I also very much fancied Scott! Overall, a quick and fun read which exceeded my expectations for a novel of this size! Not so keen on the saucy bits though personal preference. Feb 11, Erin rated it really liked it Shelves: read-in , harperimpulse , challenge-march An engaging, playful read with just the right balance between romance and erotica. Despite the novella length the characters have great depth; I also loved the switching POVs.

She proves she's clever from the start. And, well, Scott Dec 30, Teresa rated it it was ok. Short and sweet freebie. But also corny and predictable. Everything happened too fast and was too corny to deserve a 3 star. Jun 13, Deniz rated it liked it Shelves: sizzling , contemporary , new-adult.
Yep, how very old lady of me! So I had this idea that it's going to have loads of snowboarding scenes set in Verbier with some fun banter- basically a cute story set in my "backyard, well the backyard is spent my teens in. You might ask. Well check out the cover?! Notice the snowboard?! The blurb sounds fun and cute right? And for some reason I assumed a chalet girl was like I was one of them girls who lived 3. And for some reason I assumed a chalet girl was like I was one of them girls who lived in a chalet for the winter That's not quite what this is about, actually.
Oh let me reassure you it IS cute. But no fun banter or snowboarding to be found anywhere. So the storyline is not about snowboarders or skiers- though there is a skiing scene, a single one. It's about Holly, a girl from England who works in a chalet in Verbier over the winter. And a chalet girl is apparently not a local like me but someone like Holly.
My first reaction to the book was: What? They ALL English?! Frowning I wondered what had happened to the cute Swiss guys that used to live there But I got rather quickly over the fact that the entire cast were from England, because the story is cute and engaging. It really a classic romance set in the snow. With that come the usual angst and dramas, big misunderstanding and makeups and yes, the HAE.
It is a light and cute read with some nice smut thrown it to boot. The book is written alternating between Scott and Holly. I liked the way the were written, and I could related to them. I kinda rolled my eyes at it and though gosh just get over it. Especially Scott. Terrible isn't? Especially when you know what tragedy I am talking about. The support cast was your usual as well. The villain so typical, not a single surprise there. The bestie funny and while often written one of my favorite things about the book. I loved Holly's relationship with her big mouthed bestie.
I guess because of us girls have someone like Piper in our life's but also Wilson really wrote their relationship well. The chemistry between Scott and Holly was great! I liked them as a couple and totally rooted for them. There were some great scenes between them. I think the whole thing did feel a bit rushed, the emotions felt short cut and there wasn't enough character-building- to be honest I blame the short format of it.
I think this would make a great full length novel actually. The novella thing- something between a novel and short story doesn't kinda do the idea justice. The world-building was good, I love Verbier, and Wilson has definitely spent time during winter in the Alps. Her descriptions were beautiful and accurate, and she in a few of the scenes she got it just right. But again, I would have liked her to go more into depths. I think that most people won't mind this, but I know the place, I know the beauty and romance winters in Verbier and I would have loved it if Wilson would have brought that aspect through more.
Because without it it's just a cute but typical romance story. I love Wilsons witty and descriptive writing style, so much that I am definitely looking forward to what else she comes up with.
Can any chalet girl become a Jenny Jones?
All in all a fun and cute romance with some steamy scenes. Definitely a read lovers of the genre will enjoy. But I wish it would have been given a little more depth. Holly immediately attracts the attention of the owner of Chalet NetGalley free read Holly has just arrived in Switzerland to work as a chalet girl because her best friend and flatmate, who originally suggested they both do this for the winter to catch a rich guy her joke , had gotten pregnant and moved in her boyfriend Holly immediately attracts the attention of the owner of Chalet Repos and her boss, Scott Hamilton, although she doesn't know it at the time.
Scott doesn't date employees, but he's immediately attracted to Holly. Although she becomes a favorite of the chalet guest, due to her sweet personality, Holly quickly becomes a target by her fellow female employees due to Scott's seeming interest in her. Scott has a thing about lying. His father is a serial adulterer, his sister passed away a year ago because she never told anyone she wasn't feeling well and ened up having cancer too advanced to do anything about it.
So when he suggests Holly go with he and the some of the guests on a ski run, she's not sure where that's come from until she realizes her facebook and twitter account has been hacked.
Confessions of a Chalet Girl - Lorraine Wilson - Extract
Realizing it was one of the other chalet girls, she tries to tell Scott that she doesn't ski well, but he takes it for her being modest. She soon hurt herself and he's angry because he feels she lied. Scott ultimately realizes that Holly was set up and apologizes. They start to get very close, realizing they could be much more than a hook up to each other, when Scott tries to explain why he doesn't drink, because he used it as a crutch after his sisters death.
But before Holly can hear the reason, she balks and walks away from him. She's been traumatized by a lifetime of taking care of and begging her alcoholic mother to get sobber. But Holly quickly realizes she didn't let Scott fully explain why he doesn't drink and she never told him why it bothers her so much.
They both realize the only way things will work is if they are completely honest with each other and don't jump to conclusions when the other doesn't quickly understand something, like the text from her friend asking if she's bagged the millionaire yet, which Scott reads. She laughs it off as her friend trying to get her in a relationship and he understands that it's not Holly's goal and wasn't why she was there in the first place. It wasn't terrible, it just was a little clinical in the writing. I didn't really feel any real connection or angst from the characters.
Since it was a novella, all of their conflicts were resolved so quickly and without much discussion. Things were explained and accepted at face value. I guess that's good, but it doesn't make for a great reading experience. We need misunderstandings, stubbornness and sometimes, the thought that things may not work out.
Everything just fell into place. Too pat. Jan 25, Atlanta Whitlock rated it it was amazing. Holly Buchanan has just started a new job, she has moved away from her home in London and even though last year her best friend Pippa was meant to be helping her with this job now that she is currently pregnant Holly is having to carry on with this quest on her own.
Holly already knows that this job isn't exactly going to be the easiest considering two of the Chalet girls can't even stand her but she continues with everything that's thrown at her. Holly is having a night off from her duties and i Holly Buchanan has just started a new job, she has moved away from her home in London and even though last year her best friend Pippa was meant to be helping her with this job now that she is currently pregnant Holly is having to carry on with this quest on her own.
Holly is having a night off from her duties and is currently in a bar with the other three Chalet girls that she shares a room with, thing's aren't exactly to her taste considering she doesn't like the fact she should have to strip all of her clothing just to get free drinks.
As she considers heading off to call Pippa, the most handsome man catches her eyes and little does she know that things are going to get a lot more interesting for her. Scott Hamilton can't take his eyes of Holly and even though they both haven't been formally introduced, he can't help but be intrigued by her as even though her role is a Chalet girl he doesn't think that she will ever be one as there is something about her that makes her so special. For some reason they really seem to hit it off and while he is giving her a tour of the place he can't help but think that he want's to be near her more than he should.
There seems to be a connection between Scott and Holly but there is one person who honestly can't stand the thought of Holly getting all of his attention considering she was there first and that seems to be Magda. She seems to think that considering she has already laid her offer on the table to Scott that he would surly pick her over Holly so when she learns they are getting closer than she liked Magda decides to hack Holly's Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Will Magda's jealously tactics be enough to make Holly want out completely or will they leave Holly injured. Also we all know that everyone keeps secrets from everyone, even from the ones we love but will Holly and Scott be able to work everything out so that there are no secrets between them or will they wish that they had never known each other. Honestly I loved this book and I loved learning about the characters, I would definitely recommend anyone to read this series as you wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun and games.
Nov 13, LeeLeeLoves rated it really liked it. Also because her house mates have announced they are expecting a baby and she needs to move out! Avoiding all of that she jets off for a season of Skiing and adventure… So this novella is about skiing and snowboarding right? When Holly arrives a Chalet Repos she is worlds apart from the other girls who appear to do this kind of work every season, sweet and sassy snow girls.
The opposite of Holly. The story opens with Holly and the other chalet girls in a bar full of men where the norm is for newbies to take their bra off for all to see and pin it up as a form of initiation to the chalet girl world. Holly is dubious about this but plays along, how else is she going to fit in? Suddenly this novella with its cover of pure innocence hurtles into a steamy romance and frankly its brilliant.
This is what attracts him to Holly, she is totally different to all of the other girls and he feels like he needs to protect her. The story has a really nice balance of the serious and fun elements that make it so engaging, its short and sweet without being slow. A perfect, short, easy read. This book caught my eye after finding out it was about chalet girls, I love snowboarding and thought this sounded perfect.

One snag there too, Pippa got Prego so can't go since boyfriend and her getting ready for baby coming. So, Holly begrudgingly goes anyway. This book opens with her and her fellow employees at a local bar that the tradition is that the girls have to win a drink by taking off their bra to hang above it to win a shot.
To be part of the Chalet Girls she has to do it. Luckily one of the girls told her a trick and it works. When across the room she catches the eye of a handsome man. He smiles and mouths, "Not your" looking up at the bra. She can't believe he said that, yet she can tell he is being cheeky. So, she decides she is going to go over and give him what for and when she does there is a major sexual attraction on both their parts. They start to banter back and forth then when it gets interesting one of the girls shows her and tells her to stop flirting with their boss because he never sleeps with any of the Chalet Girls.
She just wants to die. She tries to say goodnight and that she has to make a phone call but she a little slow on the draw due to the drink. She starts to leave when he ask to go with since he has work to do at the Chalet. This where the fun begins for this couple. This was a cute couple it was just not an emotional enough of a story though. It felt like it was almost there but just missing it. I felt like I was not connecting all the way with them. Just when I was starting to it would switch on me. I would recommend but not more for the younger crowd for sure.
There is mild sex scenes compared to what is out there. Jul 10, Kate rated it it was ok Shelves: contemporary-romance , new-adult. I love the idea of chalet girls. Okay - so my expectations of life of a Chalet girl and the reality is most likely completely off.

Lucky for me, Lorraine Wilson seems to have similar expectations and this sho I love the idea of chalet girls. Lucky for me, Lorraine Wilson seems to have similar expectations and this short glimpse into the life of Holly on her working holiday is just what I expected and was hoping for when I picked up this book to read.
Written with switching point-of-views, Confessions of a Chalet Girl tells the story of Holly, an English girl who is working in Switzerland as a chalet girl. After meeting him for the first time, she finds herself enthralled with her new boss - Scott. Scott is similarly enamoured with Holly and before they know it sparks are flying.
This book was a very quick read. At just over a hundred pages, there's not a lot of time for character development and I think the plot falls down a little because of this. The relationship between Holly and Scott happens at a fast pace. There's not much else going on in this book except for the romance between the leads. And the characters are inconsistent in their portrayals.
Holly fluctuates between acting like a petty pre-teen and being a wanton sex goddess. And despite learning about him throughout the book, I felt like Scott was still a mystery to me in most ways by the time I finished the novel. That said, this book was cute and a pleasant quick read. It's very light and fluffy with a lot of romance. Confessions of a Chalet Girl started out fun but quickly lost its way for me.
I liked the concept, it was a nice idea but I was not completely convinced that the author knew what she wanted this to be.
At times it was light hearted and funny, then it was angst and dramatic. It seemed a little all over the place. The characters had the same problem especially Holly. One minute she was so shy she could barely talk right in front of Scott and the next she was acting all seductive. The first time the Confessions of a Chalet Girl started out fun but quickly lost its way for me. The first time the two have sex I found her to be completely out of character. She also over reacted a lot and was generally a little bit over the top. Another thing was that nearly every other woman in the book was made out to be mean, over pruned air heads with vindictive personalities and loose morals.
This made Holly seem like a virtuous angel but to be honest I am not sure she was all that much better. He seemed alright but I would have liked to know a little more about him. He kept going on about his past and family but I wanted more characters. The romance was alright. Like the book it started off well but dissolved into insta-love. Jun 26, Chrissi rated it liked it. Sometimes I just like to indulge in a book like this one!

She certainly shows much promise as a writer with this book. I loved the relationship between Holly and Scott, it was believable and I found myself rooting for them. There are some great and smutty, for those that love smut! I think Confessions Of A Chalet Girl is a decent, cute read which is well worth checking out if you enjoy reading this genre. The tension mounts until the inevitable happens. The plot's interesting twists give this sexy romance its emotional depth. Both Holly and Scott must overcome their inner demons if they want their romantic interlude to last when the snow disappears. Feb 18, Eric Juneau rated it did not like it. The novella starts out with a gratuitous boob flashing contest and it goes down from there.
Holly is working at a ski resort to run away take some needed time from the domestic problems back home. What problems there are, I don't know, because the book never tells us. It also never tells us about the romantic male lead. He has no characterization. It just jumps right into doing naughty things. Holly has no sense of this guy or who he is before letting him explore interesting crevices. Just that h The novella starts out with a gratuitous boob flashing contest and it goes down from there.
Just that he's her boss. She's physically attracted, but that's it. The girl's characterization is all wrong too. I can't believe someone who likes control as the author is fond of constantly reminding us would tolerate all this "wildness". It reeks of "Red Shoe Diaries". It needs more characters and better explanations for the non-conflicts that arise.
It hand-waves plot developments, like her Facebook "being hacked", without explanation or characterization of the enemy. It's just there to provide a little more filler. Mar 15, Grace Harwood rated it liked it. I very much enjoyed this quick read, but it really is just a Mills and Boon where the author has not met the word count. The male character is straight out of a Mills and Boon but you don't really get a sense of him very much because the book is so short having said that, you don't get a sense of the male characters in much longer Mills and Boons either.
